Well, to fix the issue for Windows Search; that is still not fixed by System File Checker, you can try this fix: FIX : Windows Search Service Failed To Start In I downloaded and installed the free home edition of "Registrar Registry Manager" from http://www.resplendence.com/main and was able to change the keys to the following values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\Gathering Manager\DefaultApplicationsPath to value: C:\Windows_Index\Search\Data\Applications\
